Recent Open Day May 5, 2023 – Posted in: Blog

A blustery but dry morning greeted us for the start of our March 25th open day.

Our fantastic volunteers all set at their respective posts ready for the, hoped for, trickle of visitors throughout the day.

Last minute adjustments to boat shed exhibits, stalls and our volunteer’s art works displays.

Doors open at 10am and within a few minutes we have our first visitors arrive, keen for a cuppa and a welcomed break from the wind.

A short time in and the sound of distant drumming can be heard from the direction of the Redoubt! Its our first performers of the day, the Pentacle Drummers, making their way to the boatshed from the Redout fortress, with a good number of interested public following them here. The drummers give a fantastic performance outside the shed and visitors roll in to see what we are about.

Some old friends Mr & Mrs Ted Hyde are able to join us and spend some time with uses good to see them again!

Very busy with a steady flow of visitors, most didn’t know we were here!

Early afternoon and it was time for our next performers, two Morris Sides have joined us for today, “Anderida Morris” with one of our own on the melodeon and the very talented youngsters from “Roses are Red”.

Another influx of very welcome visitors including ancestors of various boatmen families, Sayers, Allchorn and Huggett to name a few.

Taking us to our last entertainment for the day, the “Pevensey Ukulele band” singing the odd sea shanti and some well known singalong favourites!

Thanks to our volunteer team and many welcome visitors, the open day was another great success; we had only very favourable comments from our visitors and all were pleased and grateful for our efforts to keep Eastbourne’s heritage alive.

We look forward to see you all again and hopefully even more on our next open day.
